Caroline Welsh

Caroline Welsh is Chair of the Birchip Cropping Group (BCG), a farmer led research and extension organisation in the Wimmera Mallee region of Victoria. BCG specializes in on-farm research trials, variety trials, risk management, crop forecasting and managing climate variability for cropping and livestock farmers. Caroline is a partner in the family grain farm, a board member of GWMWater and has a degree in Agricultural Science and a Master of Marketing (Agribusiness). She worked in the Irrigated Horticulture Section of the Department of Primary Industries for 19 years in the areas of industry development, export marketing, extension, irrigation and climate. Caroline received a Churchill Fellowship in 1998 to investigate markets and competitors of Australia’s fresh stone fruit exports.


The Australian Society of Agronomy is the professional body for agronomists in Australia. It has approximately 500 active members drawn from government, universities, research organisations and the private sector.
